Sheffield’s strong walls and aggressive, fast style was a welcome return from the team, who have struggled to win at home over the past six months.
Early on, the two teams kept pace, DRR and Team England's Rogue Runner and SSRG's Mia Malice both took turns in the penalty box on the way to a score of 29 all.
DRR's lively new rocket mascot entertained the crowd while the refs sorted out a few details, then Rio's 19-point powerjam for Sheffield set the team on a roll which even Total Freyhem's 10-pointer for the Dollies couldn't stop.
Tbe half time score was 93 to 49 in Sheffield's favour, but DRR returned determined to fight back, Gob Stop'Her coming out and scoring 20 in the first jam of the second half.
SSRG's Faithkill was able to place some big hits on Rogue Runner, and Holly Hotrod took advantage. DRR remained tactically strong and SSRG took some unnecessary penalties, but extended their lead to 150-101 with fifteen minutes to go. Particularly good team work between Warrior Princess and Nicky Fury helped SSRG retain their lead.
Several Dollies were frustrated by Sheffield's walls, although Rogue Runner juked through to hand DRR a few 4-0 jams. In a change of fortune, Faithkill lined up against Rogue, narrowly taking lead before holding her opponent back without scoring for an entire two minutes. SSRG then retained the lead through the last few, high-scoring, jams, taking the win.
Captain Eva Von Gorier, who, alongside Parma Violence. is taking a break from the team for a year in Korea, said, “For my final bout, the team couldn’t have done me prouder. We haven’t played this fast or this aggressively in a long time. It was a fantastic display of sport from Sheffield."
Crucibelles show promise, but Raggy Dollz take the win - by Violet Death
Whilst tactically advanced, their skating skills and relative inexperience showed them up, losing 101 – 165. Whilst they put up a fight, they could not bridge the gap set by the stronger team.
They did, however, play to the true SSRG form, with a much stronger second half, an awe-inspiring 24-point jam from Kim OhNo and a strong defensive line. Dazey Thunder, Laura Daley and Cyndi Slaughter's jamming, plus some aggressive blocking from Mills & Boom, Assault & Pepper and Kitty Fangtastic showed that this was a team to watch out for.
Thank you A big thanks to DRR for an amazing day. You're such a friendly, welcoming team and we can't wait to have more tiki-cocktails with you soon!
