Scaramouche's xmas list 2012:
My name is Scaramouche and this is my first Christmas as a Sheffield Steel Roller Girl. I joined the girls in March, passed my minimum skills in September, fell in love with roller derby somewhere inbetween and have had the best year of my life skating, laughing and crying with the most amazing bunch of people I've ever met.
I'll be the first to admit I'm not the biggest fan of Christmas. I have no religious attachments, no sentimental feelings towards tinsel, no small children to live the magic through. But this year at the SSRG xmas party at the Lantern Theatre even I managed to get in the festive spirit, singing carols, playing party games and that classic xmas activity of watching gorgeous women take their clothes off to music My cold cold heart was warmed (though that may have been more to do with my never empty cup of wine....). I even skated the last TIL/SSRG skate session dressed as a reindeer.
2012 has been the year I discovered derby, and 2013 is going be the year big things are going to happen for me. Firstly I'm going to get my bouting cherry well and truly popped, then get rostered to play for the incredible Crucibelles, then travel the country playing with and supporting the finest women's and men's roller derby teams in the UK (can you tell I've been working on my positive visualisation??).
I'm also looking forward to getting more involved behind the scenes of the league....maybe even get myself a little committee role if I'm lucky! But above all I want to play better, be faster, stronger, and continue to have crazy amounts of fun with the most kick-ass bunch of women I've ever had the privilege to know.
I originally took up roller derby to distract me from a broken heart. I'm happy to report SSRG has well and truly mended it (and much more besides) and I can't wait to see what they have in store for me next year.
Merry Christmas everyone and a Happy Skate-filled New Year!"
