Besides the fact that it sounds like massive fun, supporting local charity Bluebell Wood is a cause close to many of our hearts, as these amazing people carry out truly life-changing work, providing support to terminally ill children and their families when they need it most. In the year or so that I’ve been a member of SSRG, some of my favourite non-skating experiences with the league have involved fundraising in some shape or form for local charities such as these (for example, the raffle organised by Cassassin and myself for our annual Goblin King Ball, which was really rewarding and totally worth the many hours spent visiting what felt like every local business and shop in Sheffield) and I don’t expect this to be any different. It really is something special when we’re able to combine our love of all things derby with really making a difference to someone’s life, which is why I’m ending this blog with a plea for help – even if it’s just a couple of quid, please take the time to donate to this incredible cause. We have our own jazzy new fundraising page set up at www.justgiving.com/ssrgcolourdash if you fancy helping us out; it costs over £3 million a year for Bluebell Wood to care for over 160 terminally ill children from across Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire, so they really do need all the help they can get – if you can, please give generously. Failing that, any supporters on the day itself are also very welcome – lots of cheering may be required to get us all across that finish line in one piece!
